Our Favourite Christmas Products...

This festive season is one of our favourites at Shoreline. Christmas is a time to spend with family, and if yours is anything like ours, that includes our furry relatives! There's nothing quite like a dog walk in the snow then getting cosy with the cat by the fire.

We collected our ultimate Christmas products. Some are indulgent, some are practical and some...well, they are just for a bit of fun!

The first two are a combination of both. Introducing, the Planet Dog Snowball and Mint. They both have a 'chomper' rating- the Snowball is 5/5 and the Mint 3/5, so you can choose which would best suit your dog. One of the Shoreline Dogs, Gracie, a Boxer Staffy x (with powerful gnashers!) has had her Snowball for nearly three years, and it's still going strong! They also have a lovely scent added to them so any kisses under the mistletoe will be minty fresh!

Next are the Christmas Dinner cans. Those familiar with Lily's Kitchen will notice it has returned with a slightly different, but still well received recipe! Billy + Margot is brand new this year, combining turkey with yummy root vegetables and herbs. They are both high quality and healthy cans perfect for Christmas day- plus it means you don't have to share your delicious human roast!

Antlers are the perfect treat to keep your dog busy at Christmas. Having relatives over and a change of routine can cause some dogs to be anxious or stressed, and chewing relieves this feeling. They are packed with minerals, and do not splinter so you know you can relax- both because your dog is happy and that he's not tearing the presents open! (Don't worry about Rudolph- deer naturally shed their antlers!)

Here is the lovely Gracie, sporting one of the many festive accessories we are stocking this year. Some dogs won't tolerate even a coat let alone a fake santa beard or hat, but Gracie relishes any extra attention!

Our last favourite is not strictly a Christmas product, but it's a sure fire way to impress the felines in your life. The Yeowww! catnip range is always a hit, so much so that we offer a money back guarantee on the bananas if your cat doesn't like it. Here is Smudge, one of our Shoreline cats, pictured with her old faithful- and slightly weathered- banana! She sleeps with it but as soon as we ruffle it up or warm it slightly on the radiator she goes crazy all over again!

So there you have it, a small selection of our best Christmas products. Please e-mail us at shorelinepets@gmail.com or send us a message on Facebook with any questions, we love to hear from you! Always feel free to pop in for some on the house advice from the team too.

A New Breed Of Pet Shop...

Shoreline Pet Supplies is an independent, family run business in Worthing on the South Coast of the UK.

We believe in taking a fresh approach to traditional values, ensuring our customer service is second to none. Keeping our customers happy- both human and furry!- is our top priority, whether by our advice, prices, or the products themselves. This means that you have a friendly and helpful service at your disposal, whilst being rest assured that anything we recommend for your best friend is of the highest quality and standard.

Our extensive and specialist product knowledge is often what sets us apart from bigger chain stores. Being canine and feline specialists, our staff have a mere ten cats and four dogs between us (for now!) so everything we believe in is all tried and tested. We will never promote the less healthy options to our customers, as we know a healthy pet is a happy one. However, we understand that not everyone has time to come in and see us for the advice they might need, or even just to discuss what other options are out there.

We set up this blog for our customers to read at their leisure, discussing everything from training methods to dietary debates. This will also include the option to email any questions, contact us on Facebook, or as usual pick up the dog and bone on 01903 243100!

How To Help Christmas Day Run Smoothly...

If your household is anything like ours at Shoreline, your pets are part of what makes Christmas amazing. But as much as we love them...they can make a nuisance of themselves in all of the excitement! This post will give you a few ideas of how to keep your furry relatives under wraps...

Cats are the experts in mischief among the animal kingdom, as demonstrated above by one of our shop cats Mr Tiddles! With shiny baubles, rustly paper, and ribbon trailing all over the place, it's no wonder they're tempted.

Though they can be creatures of habit, cats also appreciate novelty. It's an idea to keep a new or favourite toy out of sight for a few days, then introduce it on Christmas day. Mr Tiddles and his sister Smudge love the Yeowww catnip toys, especially if they're heated up on the radiator first!

If your cat is food motivated, try scattering high reward treats- like Nature's Menu meaty snacks or dried chicken - around the house so they have to forage for it. This will fulfill their instincts to hunt whilst keeping them from shredding the tree! This is also perfect for overweight cats because it encourages them to work for their food rather than gulping it down.

If all else fails... try a radiator bed. If nothing the heat will send them in to total bliss!

Dogs are a little more awkward as they tend to want our attention more than anything! Again the novelty of giving them a new toy- and letting them unwrap the paper themselves!- can be a good distraction. For destructive pooches, try a soft toy with no stuffing, like the Skinneez range, or a hard rubber toy like a Kong.

Any toys you can fill with treats are a great way to keep your dog occupied. Our girls love no-sugar pure peanut butter or liver paste in their Kongs, but alternatively you can use wet food or mix their dry food with hot water and stuff it inside.

Rawhide can suit some dogs, though at Shoreline we normally advise constant supervision whilst feeding them. They have a tendency to go slimy and can stick in the throat which could be dangerous. One of the hide rolls we sell, made by Farm Foods, we have found to be safer than most.

It's wrapped in oesophagus too which goes down very well!

Raw bones are a good and safe alternative- perhaps a leg off the turkey before it's cooked!- although if it's a bit too gory then antlers are a different option. They're packed with vitamins and minerals and last for hours, if not days. Chewing releases 'happy hormones' too, so giving them a good toy or treat can keep their stress and anxiety levels down.

NEVER give your dog or cat cooked bones- not only are they high in fat and very rich, they can splinter both in the mouth and the gut.

If you know your dog is likely to be stressed or overexcited at the festivities, make sure they get a lovely long walk in the morning. Excercise helps burn off energy, both in body and mind, which can help them be more balanced and calmer later on. A walk in a wooded area is perfect as it engages their natural urges to forage and use their noses. Here's Bree sporting her brand new reflective Ruffwear harness- now we can still spot her on those early bird walks!

We have plenty more tips and tricks to keep Christmas stress free- contact us on Facebook or by email on shorelinepets@gmail.com for some more! If you come in and see us your dog will always get a lovely festive treat on the house.
